I'm not sure why I hadn't seen this already, but now I have seen it, I can't un-see it!
So, the people that lived after the apocalyptic "Climate Catasprohe" of Genesis 6 decide that, because they can't trust God not to flood the world with water again, they decide to build them a city and a tower within that city, but for what purpose?
Genesis 11:1-4
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Did you catch it, or did you miss it?
Here's it is again:
"...let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven...lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."
Notice that the ones that wanted to build this city and tower were "...of one language, and of one speech." They spoke the same, they had all things in common, they were a united nation, a U.N if you please.
Now here's what I find interesting and what I hadn't seen until last week.
The tower that they wanted to build was a "mixed use development" building. A tower that housed everything a resident needed, housing, shopping et cetera. Everyone would live in this tower and nobody would need to travel because everything they needed was in the tower. These builders built up, instead of out.
This tower would be in a city that contained everything and everyone. Maybe the city had a 15 minute circumference, whose knows?!
However, God knew what they were trying to do and put a stop to it before they had time finish it.
So what led to me to this train of thought? Have a look at this:
What do you think? Interesting huh...
What about this one?
Let me leave you with the Word of God to close off.
Ecclesiastes 1:9
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Let's continue to make our calling and election sure by hearing and obeying the word of Christ:
Luke 21:20-21
And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
Maranatha!
